Birthdays and Cakes

Spring time brings many birthdays in my family.  We have a tradition that the week on which your birthday falls you get to choose what Sunday dinner will be.  And, of course, what cake you want. Well, Sam and I have been busy doing a few cakes for family members.

First was my mothers, which in all actuality was not a cake.  Her favorite dessert is Hostess Ding Dongs, and she only has them once a year on her birthday.  The tradition is to make a crazy creation (done mostly by my loving husband) out of those ding dongs.  This years was the Eiffel Tower.
Why?  Just because it was fun.  It is supported mostly with Bluish-Green rice crispy treats and a few dowels.

The most recent one was this week for my father.  If you know him, you know that he loves his fowl, as in chickens, ducks, geese, etc...  My mom came up with the idea to make a chicken cake.  Well, after a big of brainstorming this is what we came up with...

We weren't sure what kind of chicken it was, but it did look like a chicken.  The feathers are almonds and pecans... I layered them to look like as lifelike as possible.

This one Sam did,  and was very ingenious with the nest  (which is all cake too) and the Cadbury eggs breaking open.

Over all it turned out really cute, and delicious too.

I'll try and keep you posted of any more fun cakes that come about.  For now, all I can say is YUMMY!

Conference Packets!!!

Can I just tell you that I LOVE Sugardoodle.net!  I am excited for General Conference this week, and as always, I want to use some Activity Packets for my kids.  Here are the ones I have found that correspond to the April 2011 Conference (link below).   The creator has pages for ALL ages, including adults.  I did not put these together, but I definitely plan on using them.  I hope that you enjoy conference as much as I do!
